How, Where and When to Start Homeschooling 11 Year Old
Where do I start.... how do I know what subjects to teach them and do I get the books from somewhere that tells and shows me how to teach them. Do I get books that have the right educational needs for them my son is 11. Please help.
Hi! Starting to homeschool your child at 11 can seem a bit scary. But you just need to take it step by step.
The first thing you need to do is make sure you understand the laws or regulations where you live. I have a free workbook all about how to start homeschooling that will help you to get to grips with this - and help you find other homeschoolers near you. Finding a local support group is going to really help you. You will be able to ask all the questions you have, and find out more about how they do things.
With regards to knowing what to teach him, I would probably start by taking some time to deschool. This will give your son a chance to unwind, and you to figure out how you would like to homeschool him.
Your son is only 11 so you might start by looking at the things he enjoys doing and do some projects or unit studies around those things. You don't have to do things like school and work through workbooks unless you want to.
Have a look at my homeschooling ideas and free homeschool curriculum to see the types of things that we do. Another good place to look is Currclick - they have lots of packs and worksheets that you can download and work through.
Don't worry too much about subjects and age level at the moment. Just do some fun learning together, and you will start to get a feel for how homeschool will work best for you both.
